Jonnell Carpenter is an experienced legal professional currently serving as Assistant Legal Counsel for the North Carolina Community College System since September 2021, focusing on contract review, drafting, negotiation, and legal expertise in procurement processes. Prior to this role, Jonnell was a Higher Education Legal Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where engagement included litigation support and various areas of law such as constitutional and health care law. Jonnell also completed a Wallace Public Service Fellowship at Campbell University, managing pro bono projects and student support initiatives. Earlier legal experience included a legal externship with the North Carolina Department of Justice and a role as Student Life Instructor at the North Carolina School of Science and Math. Jonnell holds a Doctor of Law from Campbell University and a Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law Studies from Pfeiffer University.
