David Rhoades

Communications Director at North Carolina Department of Commerce

David Rhoades has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. David started their career as a Promotion Supervisor at KTSP-TV in 1986 and then went on to become the Creative Services Director at ABC-Disney (WTVD-TV) in 1992. In this role, they directed an in-house advertising agency and managed a $4 million media budget. After this, they worked as the Director of Marketing Programs at KOZ.com and then as a Marketing Manager at ROI Marketing Management, where they developed customer-centric marketing programs for technology clients. David later became the owner of MarketingWorks RTP in 2001.

In 2006, David joined the North Carolina Department of Commerce, first as the Director of Marketing, where they were involved in brand-building, advertising, media and public relations, and relationship marketing programs. David then became the Deputy Communications Director, where they worked on the development of a state branding platform and public presentations. Currently, they are serving as the Communications Director, responsible for strategic planning, media and public relations, speech writing, and content development and distribution. David also oversees the agency's website, social media platforms, and the department's electronic newsletter, SYNC.

David Rhoades attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1978 to 1982, where they received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Their field of study centered around Radio, Television, & Motion Pictures, as well as Speech Communication.
