Walt Thrower has extensive experience in law enforcement and investigation, currently serving as an Investigator for the North Carolina Medical Board since March 2020. Prior to this role, Walt Thrower had a distinguished career as a Detective in the Major Case Unit at the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office from September 2012 to December 2017. Walt's experience includes tenure with the Drug Enforcement Administration from August 2002 to August 2012, where responsibilities included serving as a Supervisory Special Agent and leading a State & Local Task Force. Earlier in the career, Walt Thrower operated as a Special Agent assisting in establishing the DEA Asheville Office, alongside previous Special Agent positions in New Orleans and Topeka. Walt began in law enforcement as a Police Officer and Canine Handler with the Greensboro Police Department from June 1984 to October 1990. Walt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Appalachian State University between 1980 and 1984.

North Carolina Medical Board
The North Carolina Medical Board is the public agency that licenses and regulates physicians, physician assistants and certain other medical professionals and also investigates allegations of misconduct and, where appropriate, takes remedial or disciplinary action. The Board consists of 13 members appointed by the Governor who meet every other month during the odd numbered months and hold disciplinary hearings during the even-numbered months, as needed. The Board currently licenses more than 50,000 physicians and physician assistants. Consumers may look up physicians, physician assistants and other medical professionals at www.ncmedboard.org. The “Look Up a Doctor or PA” tool allows patients to find information about education, training, licensure history and disciplinary record, if any.
