Nick Swayne, Ph.D., began serving as president of North Idaho College Aug. 1, 2022.
President Swayne came to NIC after serving as the Executive Director of 4-Virginia, a collaborative partnership between eight universities in the state of Virginia. He is also the founder of a comprehensive academic innovation ecosystem at James Madison University.
Prior to his work at JMU, President Swayne served in multiple leadership roles around the nation and the world as an officer in the U.S. Army. In addition to leading people, President Swayne has managed multi-million-dollar budgets and strategic operations in some of the most challenging circumstances.
President Swayne grew up in the Moscow area and earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho. He went on to earn a master's degree in public administration from Northeastern University and a doctorate in postsecondary strategic leadership from James Madison University. He and his wife, Nicky, have two adult children and a chocolate lab named Stout.
