Andrew Deonarine

Medical Lead, Informatics at Northern Health

Andrew Deonarine has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and companies. Andrew is currently serving as the Medical Lead, Informatics at Northern Health - BC, a position they started in March 2022. Prior to this, they were an Advisor at u.vu starting from January 2022. From November 2019 to May 2022, Andrew held the role of Clinical Data Scientist and Head of Data Engineering at XY.ai Inc. Andrew also gained experience as a Visiting Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School from November 2017 to May 2021. Before that, they worked as a Consultant at a Private Biotechnology Startup from November 2017 to October 2019. Andrew's career began as the Co-Founder and CEO of Onto.it from May 2014 to May 2015.

Andrew Deonarine has an extensive education history in the medical field. Andrew began their education at Western University, where they earned a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry in 2000. Andrew then pursued a Master's degree in Biochemistry at Western University from 2000 to 2002.

Deonarine continued their studies at the University of Toronto, where they earned their MD degree in Medicine in 2008. During this time, they also obtained a Master's degree in Health Sciences from the University of British Columbia in 2009.

After completing their MD, Deonarine specialized further in the medical field. Andrew enrolled in the Medical Specialization program at the University of British Columbia, focusing on the Clinician Investigator Program from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biomathematics, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology at the University of Cambridge from 2010 to 2014.

Deonarine then became a Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institution of the United Kingdom from 2013 to 2015. Andrew furthered their specialization by joining the Public Health and General Preventive Medicine Residency Program at the University of British Columbia from 2008 to 2016.

In 2016, Deonarine was accepted into Harvard Medical School, where they pursued a Medical Specialization in Clinical Informatics until 2017.

Outside of their formal education, Deonarine has obtained several certifications. These include a Certification in Clinical Informatics from the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), a Certification in Public Health and General Preventive Medicine from the ABPM, and FRCPC (Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) certifications in both Public Health and General Preventive Medicine and the Clinician Investigator Program.
