Stephen Blockwell has a diverse work experience spanning over 25 years. Stephen has held various management positions in the water and environmental science industry. Blockwell started their career as a Research Assistant at Cardiff University in 1993. Stephen then worked as an Environmental Consultant at Envitech Ltd from 1997 to 1999. Stephen joined Syngenta in 1999 as an Ecological Risk Assessor and Ecotoxicologist, where they handled regulatory submissions and product strategies. In 2003, they became the Ecotoxicology Laboratory Director at Sinclair Knight Merz, managing research projects and providing environmental solutions. In 2005, Blockwell joined the Sydney Catchment Authority as a Science Program Manager, focusing on resource management and operational challenges. Stephen then moved to Sydney Water in 2008, where they served as the Corporate Strategy Program Manager, leading a strategic program focused on waterways and environmental science. In 2013, Blockwell joined Northern Ireland Water as the Asset Strategy Project Manager and later took on roles such as Asset Performance Manager and Head of Strategic Investment Planning. In these roles, they developed investment plans, managed capital programs, and coordinated cross-agency work requirements. Overall, Blockwell has extensive experience in water management, environmental science, and strategic planning.
Stephen Blockwell attended Queen Elizabeth Cambria School from 1980 to 1987 for their secondary education. Following this, they pursued their higher education at the University of Wales, Cardiff. From 1987 to 1996, they earned a BSc (Honours) and PhD degree in Biology & Environmental Toxicology.
