Nita Lescher

Director Therapeutic Foster Care Program at Northern Virginia Family Service

Nita Lescher has extensive experience in various roles related to social services and child welfare.

Nita is currently the Director of the Therapeutic Foster Care Program at Northern Virginia Family Service since 2014.

Prior to this, they held the position of Director of the Early Childhood Education Program at the same organization, where they were responsible for developing goals, implementing strategies, and ensuring the highest quality services for children and families enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start programs.

Before joining Northern Virginia Family Service, Nita was the Program Director at Phillips Programs for Children and Families for a short period in 2014.

Nita also served as the Division Director for the Vermont division of the Annie E. Casey Foundation from 2004 to 2013, overseeing operations and managing a team of up to 30 staff.

Before that, Nita worked as the Director of Program Planning at American Humane, where they managed child welfare-related projects and conducted evaluations of public child welfare systems.

Nita also served as a Project Director and Training Manager at Virginia Commonwealth University, where they focused on improving training for social workers in child and family services.

Earlier in their career, Nita held positions as the PIRO Director and Social Services Consultant at the Consortium for Child Welfare, as well as a Case Manager at Whitman Walker Clinic and the Martin Pollak Project.

Nita began their career as the Coordinator of Publications at George School.

Nita Lescher earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in German from William & Mary in 1974. Nita furthered their education by obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in Painting and Drawing from the University of Cincinnati School of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning between 1975 and 1977. Nita then pursued a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree in Public Administration from The Catholic University of America, National Catholic School of Social Service from 1992 to 1995.
