The Internship Program at NorthStar was built with the intern and permanent staff in mind to accomplish two major goals 1) build experience and exposure to problem solving procedures and practices, and 2) assist staff with project tasks, allowing for mentorship opportunities.
We are a team of engineers and surveyors who have been serving Northern California communities for over 40 years. We honestly love what we do, who we do it with, and where we do it. Internship - We are seeking a full-time, Intern who is ready to be on the track to develop as an engineer and play a significant role in our growing Civil Team in Chico CA. NorthStar’s Civil team is comprised of talented professionals working to better our communities through inspired design.
Fulfilling Projects - NorthStar is proud to partner with both public and private sector clients. We have done work for a range of clients in multiple industries: City and County Agencies, Construction Companies, Schools, Native American Tribes, Non-profit Organizations, Health Care Entities, Utility Companies, Local Developers, and Small Businesses.
Time for Life - We are as passionate about enjoying life as we are about the great work we do. We show up for our team and our clients Monday through Friday and 40 hours is a typical week.

Just 90 minutes north of Sacramento, and three hours from San Francisco, Lake Tahoe, and the North Coast, Chico is a welcoming town with a vibrant community that has become a regional center for recreation, business, the arts, and cultural activity. The CSU Chico campus brings diversity and liveliness to our downtown with its farmer’s markets, restaurants, and live music. Within our 11- mile historic Bidwell Park and around Chico, there are abundant outdoor recreational opportunities including hiking, disc golf, mountain biking, fishing, horseback riding, swimming, star gazing, etc.

Essential Functions:
The Intern should be highly efficient, organized, and have a desire to develop themselves as an engineer.
What you must have to apply:
A student currently enrolled as a Junior or above in an ABET accredited college or university with a focus in engineering coursework
No experience is required for this position
Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.
Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication skills
Excellent time management, prioritization, and organization skills
Possession of valid California Driver’s License and clear DMV Report
What we prefer you have:
Proficiency with the use of personal computers, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD - Civil 3D, and civil/structural/surveying software is desirable.
Enrolled or has completed CSU Surveying (Civil 130), Transportation Planning, Surveying & Graphics (Civil 140), Fluid Mechanics (Civil 321), Soil Mechanics (Civil 411) or equivalent is desirable
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of an effective team

Our internship meets the requirements of CIVL 389 Civil Engineering Internship, and we can assist in documentation as necessary
Eligible for Assistant Technician position or above after the intern term has been completed
