Jessica Colby

Jessica Colby's work experience begins in 2013 when they worked as a Youth Conservation Corps Crew Member at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center. In this role, they worked on trail projects in the Pondicherry Wildlife Refuge.

In 2016, Jessica worked as a Recreation Specialist at the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation. Their responsibilities included setting up counters on trails, conducting trail usage surveys, inspecting trails for damage, and planting trees to combat erosion.

From 2013 to 2016, Jessica also held various roles at the University of Vermont. Jessica worked as an Upward Bound Office Assistant, where they helped maintain a blog for TRiO students and organized events for Student Support Services (SSS) students. Additionally, they interned for TRiO Student Support Services, contacting incoming UVM students about the program.

In 2015, Jessica worked as a Restoration Intern at Trout Unlimited. Jessica assisted with Strategic Wood Additions (SWA) projects, rigging and running a grip-hoist, and conducted stream assessments using electrofishing.

In 2017, Jessica worked as an American Elm Technician for The Nature Conservancy. Jessica conducted field research and management activities in floodplain forest sites, measuring tree growth, survival, and monitoring data on elm plantings.

In the same year, Jessica also worked as a Field Technician at the University of Vermont, collecting red spruce cones to estimate diversity and connectivity in red spruce forest ecosystems.

In 2018, Jessica held the position of Conservation Coordinator at the Essex County Natural Resources Conservation District. Jessica was responsible for coordinating efforts to remove invasive species, conducting landowner outreach and maintaining GIS data.

During the same period, Jessica also worked as an Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV) Seasonal Field Technician at the New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game. Their role involved fieldwork related to eastern brook trout conservation.

Most recently, Jessica started working as a Riparian Lands Project Coordinator at the NorthWoods Stewardship Center in 2020. Jessica conducts outreach to landowners along rivers in the Lake Memphremagog watershed to coordinate conservation projects.

Jessica Colby earned a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology with a minor in Forestry from the University of Vermont. Jessica attended the university from 2013 to 2017. Prior to that, they graduated from Lyndon Institute in 2013 with a High School Diploma with Honors. The field of study for their high school diploma is not specified.
