John Swimmer

John Swimmer has extensive experience in the legal field, particularly in tribal law. John currently serves as the Chief Legal Officer for the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi, where they supervise a team of attorneys and support staff. Prior to this, they worked as an Assistant Tribal Prosecutor for the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin. John also has experience as a private practice attorney, serving as the Owner-Attorney for Swimmer Law Offices. John has held various roles in tribal organizations, including serving as the Solicitor General for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and as the Deputy Attorney General for the Ho-Chunk Nation. Additionally, John has been involved in legal committees and served as a Board Member for the First American Capital Corporation. Earlier in their career, they served as a Staff Sergeant in the Tulsa Air National Guard.

John Swimmer completed their Bachelor of Arts in Communication at the University of Oklahoma from 1986 to 1990. John then pursued further education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where they obtained a Juris Doctor degree in Law from 1995 to 1998.

Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi is a federally recognized Tribal government with more than 1,600 enrolled Tribal Members. The NHBP main offices are located at the Pine Creek Indian Reservation near Athens, Michigan, with additional offices in Grand Rapids, Michigan. While NHBP seeks to improve the lives of their Tribal Members, NHBP also looks for ways to improve the lives of those around the NHBP Community. There are many events, programs and activities for NHBP Tribal Members, staff and Community members to attend throughout the year. The unity that NHBP purposely focuses on is meant to create a more diverse, accepting and caring culture.
