Gemma Smits has extensive work experience in the legal field. Gemma began their career at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek as an Advocaat from September 2006 to September 2012. Gemma then joined AkzoNobel as a Corporate Finance Counsel/Lawyer from September 2012 to April 2014, before becoming a Senior Corporate Counsel/Lawyer until October 2018. In AkzoNobel, Gemma was responsible for various legal matters, including corporate law, M&A, and the separation and sale of AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals. Since October 2018, Gemma has been working at Nouryon, where they held the positions of Director Legal/Advocaat, General Counsel and Head of Legal Europe/Advocaat, and currently serves as the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel.

Gemma Smits has a Master's degree in Law from Radboud University, which they completed from 2000 to 2005.
