Fergal Mc Caffery

Fergal Mc Caffery has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Fergal currently holds the position of Head of School of Informatics and Creative Arts at Dundalk Institute of Technology, where they have been since November 2022. In addition to this role, they also serve as the Director of the Regulated Software Research Centre and is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing and Mathematics.

Prior to their current position, Mc Caffery held the role of Chief Scientific Officer at STATSPORTS GROUP LIMITED starting from June 2017. Fergal was also a Board Member and Co-Founder of Nova Leah since June 2016.

Mc Caffery's career has also included roles as a Senior Research Fellow at Lero and the Irish Software Research Centre from November 2005 to January 2008. Before that, they worked as a Research Fellow at the University of Ulster from January 2003 to October 2005. Fergal also served as a Project Manager at Nortel Networks from May 1997 to December 2002 and as a Lecturer at the University of Ulster from April 1995 to May 1997.

At the start of their career, Mc Caffery worked as a Software Developer at Aldiscon Ltd. from June 1990 to July 1991.

Fergal Mc Caffery has a strong educational background in the field of computer science and software engineering. Fergal earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors degree in Computer Science from Ulster University from 1988 to 1992. Following this, they pursued further studies and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree in Software Engineering from the same university, completing the program from 1992 to 1995. Fergal Mc Caffery's passion for education led him to pursue a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching (PGCUT) from Ulster University, which they completed in 1995. Through their educational journey, they have developed a solid foundation in computer science, software engineering, and university teaching.
