Fergal Mc Caffery has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Fergal currently holds the position of Head of School of Informatics and Creative Arts at Dundalk Institute of Technology, where they have been since November 2022. In addition to this role, they also serve as the Director of the Regulated Software Research Centre and is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing and Mathematics.

Fergal Mc Caffery has a strong educational background in the field of computer science and software engineering. Fergal earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors degree in Computer Science from Ulster University from 1988 to 1992. Following this, they pursued further studies and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) degree in Software Engineering from the same university, completing the program from 1992 to 1995. Fergal Mc Caffery's passion for education led him to pursue a Postgraduate Certificate in University Teaching (PGCUT) from Ulster University, which they completed in 1995. Through their educational journey, they have developed a solid foundation in computer science, software engineering, and university teaching.
