Rahel Wondwossen has extensive work experience in the education sector. Rahel started as the Founding English Teacher and IB Coordinator at Mott Hall Bronx High School in 2005, where they played various roles including Grade Team Chair, International Baccalaureate Coordinator, and Leadership Team Member. In 2010, they joined the KIPP Foundation as a Miles Family Fellow, receiving formal training to become a school leader. Rahel then became the Founding School Leader of Cohen College Prep at New Orleans College Prep in 2011, successfully turning around the high school and achieving significant improvements in student proficiency and college acceptance rates. From 2017, Rahel worked as a Leadership Coach at New Schools for New Orleans, designing and implementing a leadership development and support program for pilot schools. Since 2018, they have been associated with Nova Pioneer, initially serving as the Chief Academic Officer and currently holding the position of Chief of Schools. In this role, they are responsible for transforming the lives and careers of students by equipping them with the skills needed for success in the 21st century.
Rahel Wondwossen has a diverse education history. In 2001, they began their undergraduate studies at Bates College, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in English in 2005. Following this, from 2005 to 2007, Rahel pursued further education at Pace University and successfully completed a Master's degree in Secondary Education and Teaching. Later, they attended Teachers College, Columbia University, enrolling in 2007 and graduating in 2009 with a Master's degree in Organizational Leadership.
