Kumar Sundaram

Kumar Sundaram is an accomplished researcher and scientist specializing in metallurgical and materials engineering, currently serving as Lead Scientist at Novelis since October 2017. Prior experience includes roles as Senior Scientist and Scientist at Novelis, and as a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, focusing on advanced casting technologies and microstructure control in aluminum recycling. At Brunel University London, Kumar developed innovative processes for producing formable aluminum sheets from post-consumer scrap metal, collaborating on the REALCAR project. Observations in prior research positions include synthesizing aluminium alloys and composites at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and evaluating tribological behaviors of aluminum alloys at Annamalai University. Kumar holds a Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, alongside degrees in Manufacturing Engineering, Human Resource Management, and Mechanical Engineering from various institutions.
