Joanna Kakissis is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in international reporting, currently serving as the Ukraine correspondent and bureau chief for NPR since August 2012. In this role, Joanna leads coverage of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, emphasizing personal narratives and profiles. Previous roles include international correspondent reporting on the ramifications of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, contributing correspondent based in Athens covering the eurozone debt crisis and migration, and a visiting Ferris Professor of Journalism at Princeton University, where Joanna taught a seminar on nationalism and migration. Additional experiences include freelance journalism for notable publications, a fellowship with the International Reporting Project examining environmental migration in Bangladesh, and a Ted Scripps Fellowship focused on environmental migration research. Educational credentials include a Master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
