Tanya Mellare is an accomplished psychologist with extensive experience in mental health services, currently serving as the Chief Psychologist for Specific Needs/Mental Health Pathway at the NSW Department of Communities and Justice since May 2018. In this role, Tanya leads a multidisciplinary team to provide direct services for individuals in custody with disabilities and acute mental health impairments, while also providing advisory support on psychology services. Previous roles include senior positions at Corrective Services NSW, the NSW Ombudsman, and the Department of Human Services, where Tanya has demonstrated expertise in managing clinical services, implementing behavior support, and leading diverse teams. Tanya holds a Master of Psychology in Counselling from Monash University and both Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Psychology from the University of Wollongong.

The DCJ is the lead agency in the new Stronger Communities Cluster. The department enables services to better work together to support everyone's right to access justice and other help for families, and strengthen/bolster the promotion of early intervention and inclusion, with benefits for the whole community. Working together in the Stronger Communities cluster means we can continue to deliver services with a more unified and collaborative approach. There is now a greater focus on prevention and early intervention, faster responses, more seamless operations, less duplication of effort and better outcomes.
