Hannah Tonkin serves as the NSW Women's Safety Commissioner for the NSW Government since February 2023 and has held the title of Barrister at both Hanson Chambers and Garden Court Chambers since 2022 and 2014, respectively. Previously, Tonkin worked with the United Nations, leading international law initiatives for humanitarian efforts across multiple regions from April 2020 to May 2022 and acting as the Director of Legal Affairs at various times in 2021. Other roles include Director of Disability Rights at the Australian Human Rights Commission, Head of the Field Legal Office in Gaza, and legal positions in both the Special Court for Sierra Leone and the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry. Tonkin holds a DPhil and BCL in International Law from the University of Oxford as well as an LLB (Hons) and BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Adelaide.
