Tim Tovar

Director, Plant Operations at NuScale Power

Tim Tovar has a diverse work experience that spans several industries. Tim started their career in the US Navy as a Submarine Officer and held various roles such as Radiological Controls Officer, Reactor Controls Assistant, Assistant Weapons Officer, Assistant Engineer, Weapons Officer, and Engineer. In 1994, they transitioned to Progress Energy where they served as Operations Manager, Manager Shift Operations, Shift Manager, Rad Con Supt at Robinson Nuclear Plant until 2008. Tim then joined FirstEnergy Corp. as the FENOC Fleet Outage Manager from 2008 to 2012. After that, they worked at NuScale Power, starting as a Project Manager in 2012, then progressing to roles such as Manager, Design Integration; Manager, Plant Operations; and currently serves as the Director of Plant Operations. Tim Tovar recently retired in May 2023.

Tim Tovar obtained their Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where they studied from 1983 to 1987. Tim also has several additional certifications including "Leading with Emotional Intelligence" from LinkedIn obtained in April 2018, "Bill George on Self Awareness, Authenticity, and Leadership" from LinkedIn obtained in February 2018, "Effective Listening" from LinkedIn obtained in August 2017, "Executive Leadership" from LinkedIn obtained in July 2017, and "Humor in the Workplace" from LinkedIn obtained in March 2017.
