Shruti Lal

Principal Scientist I - Protein Therapeutics at Nutcracker Therapeutics

Shruti Lal has a wealth of experience in the field of scientific research and technical work. Shruti has held various roles throughout their career, starting as a Research Assistant at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in 1998. Shruti subsequently worked as a Senior Member of Technical Staff at Software Technology Group International Ltd., India from 2000 to 2003.

In 2004, Shruti interned at TGen, where they contributed to a study on the genetic basis of schizophrenia. Shruti then joined UC Merced as a Research Associate, working on a project focused on the functional genomics of coral-zooxanthellae symbiosis.

Shruti pursued their graduate studies at the University of California, Riverside, where they served as a Graduate Student Researcher. Their research focused on understanding the gene regulatory networks involved in floral specification in Arabidopsis thaliana. During this time, they made significant contributions to the field by identifying key genes involved in flowering.

After completing their graduate studies, Shruti joined the Department of Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University as a Post-doctoral Researcher. Here, they made important discoveries related to the post-transcriptional regulation of genes in pancreatic cancer cells. Shruti identified a survival mechanism used by these cells to protect themselves from DNA damage and also discovered a novel target in the DNA damage repair pathway.

From 2015 to 2019, Shruti worked as a Post-doctoral Research Associate at the University of Southern California, focusing on their research in the field.

In 2019, they transitioned to industry and joined Celgene as a Scientist in Pre-Clinical Research. Shruti later moved to Zai Lab in 2020 as a Senior Scientist, where they contributed to biologics discovery and pharmacology research.

Most recently, Shruti has taken on the role of Principal Scientist I - Protein Therapeutics at Nutcracker Therapeutics, starting in November 2022.

Shruti Lal completed their Master's degree in Computational Biosciences from Arizona State University from 2003 to 2005. Shruti then pursued their PhD in Genetics, Genomics, and Bioinformatics with a specialization in Molecular Genetics at the University of California, Riverside from 2006 to 2011.
