Associate Laboratory Director, Molecular Diagnostics at The New York Genome Center

Volkan Okur, MD, FACMG has a range of work experience in the field of genetics and genomics. Volkan began their career as a Medical Geneticist at Haydarpasa Numune Education & Research Hospital in 2013, where they worked until 2015. Following this, they pursued further training at Columbia University in the City of New York as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow from 2015 to 2019. Volkan then joined Baylor College of Medicine as a Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Fellow from 2019 to 2021. Currently, they hold a position at New York Genome Center, starting as an Assistant Laboratory Director in Molecular Diagnostics in July 2021, and recently being promoted to the role of Associate Laboratory Director.

Volkan Okur, MD, FACMG (in LGG), NYCQ (cyto, molecular), completed their primary medical education at Akdeniz University from 2002 to 2008, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in the field of Medicine. Volkan further pursued their medical studies at Pamukkale Üniversitesi (PAÜ) from 2009 to 2013, obtaining a second Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in Medicine.
