Assistant Managing Editor, Live Desk at The New York Times

Marc Lacey is the assistant managing editor for the live desk at The New York Times. Marc has over 30 years of experience in journalism, starting as a summer reporting intern at The Washington Post in 1987. Marc then worked as a reporter at The Buffalo News from 1987 to 1989, before being offered a position in the Washington Bureau of The New York Times. Marc then worked as a campus stringer at Cornell University from 1986 to 1987, before joining The New York Times full-time in 1987.

Marc Lacey graduated with a BA in Biology and Society from Cornell University. Marc then went on to get their Masters of International Policy and Planning from The George Washington University. After working in the field for a few years, they decided to return to academia and became a Graduate School Lecturer at the U.C. Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, where they teach Newsroom Leadership. Marc is also a Fellow at the Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program. In addition to their academic credentials, Marc Lacey is also a certified Open Water Scuba Diver through PADI and has completed a Hostile Environments Training Course through Centurion Risk Assessment Services.
