Dr. Kathryn A. Hardy Bernal, Ph.D. has a diverse and extensive work experience in the field of research and education. Currently, they serve as the Head of Research and Postgraduate Studies at the Yoobee College of Creative Innovation, where they are responsible for managing the research culture and strategy across multiple colleges and providing mentorship and support to research-active staff members.

Prior to this role, Dr. Hardy Bernal held the position of Head of Staff Research Development at UP Education, focusing on the development of research initiatives at Yoobee Colleges Ltd.

Dr. Kathryn A. has also worked at Auckland University of Technology, where they served as the Fashion Theory Coordinator and Senior Lecturer in Fashion Design, teaching Art and Design History and Theory. Additionally, they worked as a Teaching Assistant in the School of Public Health and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Dr. Hardy Bernal has contributed to the academic community as a Sessional Academic in Design History and Theory at UNSW and as an Invited Guest Lecturer in Australian Design History at UNSW.

During their time at Massey University, they completed their Ph.D. in Visual and Material Culture, focusing on the fashion-based Mexican Gothic and Lolita movement. Earlier in their career, Dr. Hardy Bernal held multiple roles at Auckland University of Technology, including Senior Lecturer in Fashion, Product, and Textiles Design, Programme Leader in the Department of Fashion and Textiles Design, and Year Two Leader for the Bachelor of Design (Fashion and Textiles).

Dr. Kathryn A. has also worked as a Lecturer in Digital, Fashion, and Graphic Design and as a Coordinator for the Graduate Diploma in Computer Publishing and Design at Auckland University of Technology. Additionally, they served as an Invited Guest Lecturer for the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design at Whitecliffe College.

Dr. Kathryn A. then pursued a Bachelor of Art Theory Honours degree in Art History and Theory from UNSW in 2002. In 2003, they completed a Certificate in Tertiary Teaching Skills from UNSW. Dr. Hardy Bernal furthered their education with a Master of Philosophy Honours degree in Art and Design from Auckland University of Technology in 2011. Dr. Kathryn A. recently completed their Doctor of Philosophy degree in Visual and Material Culture from Massey University in 2019. Additionally, they have obtained certifications in topics such as addressing racism, applying equity in tertiary education, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi: a Visual History.
