Byron Katz

Byron Katz has extensive work experience in the software development field. Byron is currently working as a Senior Software Engineer at Obscurity Labs since March 2023. Prior to this, they held the position of Senior Software Engineer at Def Method from September 2021 to February 2023. At Def Method, Byron improved the maintainability of Upstack by modularizing and documenting Github Action pipelines, DataDog monitoring, and Terraform infrastructure automation on AWS. Byron also contributed to the development of the in-store services scheduler at Dick's Sporting Goods, utilizing Kotlin backend, React frontend, and a Postgresql database on a Pivotal Cloud Foundry environment.

Before joining Def Method, Byron served as a Senior Technical Consultant at Coveros from June 2017 to September 2021. During this time, they taught and coached various companies in modern software development practices, performance, security, testing, and automation. Some of the companies they worked with include John Deere, Army, Navy, Southwest Airlines, Tax Act, Labster, Bain & Company, Ernst & Young Global Limited, Appian, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Verizon. Additionally, Byron developed demo software for training and led a team to revise the registration system for Medicaid payments using Java Spring Boot and Postgresql.

Prior to Coveros, Byron worked as a Senior Software Developer at CoStar Group from May 2015 to May 2017. At CoStar Group, they were involved in UI improvements for the company's flagship application using Typescript, React, and Redux. Byron also converted a slow legacy XML/XSLT API to a performant modern RESTful approach in C#.

Byron's earlier work experience includes roles such as Senior Software Engineer at INVISION Inc. from June 2014 to April 2015, Senior .Net Consultant/Software Developer at Thycotic Software from June 2012 to June 2014, QA Team Lead at Ekagra Software Technologies from June 2010 to June 2011, and Architect at John Portman & Associates from May 2005 to October 2009. Byron also served as a Designer at Tunnell, Spangler, Walsh Design from June 2004 to June 2005.

Before their career in software development, Byron owned their own company, Katz and Sons, from October 2009 to June 2010, which indicates their entrepreneurial background.

Byron Katz attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville from 1996 to 2002. During this time, they pursued a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) and focused their studies on Architecture.
