Michael Ransom

Board Member at Oconee County Schools

Michael Ransom was elected to the Post 5 position on the Board of Education in 2020.

Mr. Ransom is a Registered Forester and owner of Southern Timber Solutions and works throughout the southeast as a consulting forester. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Forest Resources from the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the University of Georgia in 2010. Prior to attending the University of Georgia, Michael was in the U.S. Navy for six years and served as an Electronics Technician and Reactor Operator on board the U.S.S. Jacksonville (SSN 699).

Michael and his wife Anna have lived in Oconee County since 2016 and have been members of Watkinsville First Baptist Church since 2006. They are proud parents of three daughters, all of whom are currently enrolled in Oconee County Schools. Michael is a past Chair of the Young Alumni Committee at the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources and has also served on the Warnell Dean’s Advisory Board. He is a member of the Farmland Preservation Committee in Oconee County and also served briefly on the Board of Equalization prior to being elected to the School Board. He is also a member of the Oconee County Rotary Club and has served on the Rotary board in various positions.
