Job description

We're looking for a Head of Public Affairs to lead our EU engagement and advocacy efforts. This role will help us in shaping and executing our communications strategy to advocate for policies and regs that support the growth and innovation of our goal at octopus to get to net zero.

You’ll be based in Brussels and report into our External Affairs Director in London.  

What you'll do

  • Build relationships the company across the EU political and policy ecosystem at all levels
  • Work with in-country public affairs, policy, regulatory affairs and commercial colleagues across the company to determine and build the case for policy positions
  • Advocate for and build alliances in support of policy positions across the Brussels ecosystem
  • Accompany the CEO to senior meetings, brief in advance and progress afterwards
  • Feed regular intelligence to colleagues on EU policy and political developments

What you'll need

  • Recent experience of Public Affairs in Brussels
  • To be a skilled networkerTo be motivated and passionate self-starter needing little oversight beyond strategic guidance
  • An ability to understand detailed, technical information and communicate it to stakeholders persuasively in accessible language
  • To be comfortable with ambiguity and autonomy and working outside a traditional team structure
  • Experience in energy or highly regulated sector
  • Collaborative but sharp-elbowed - able to easily build friendships and alliances but not afraid to stand up for positions that differ from those of your peers
  • A critical thinker who can start from first principles and challenge incumbent assumptions
