Matthew Spencer

Matthew Spencer is an accomplished legal professional currently serving as a Deputy Public Defender at the Colorado State Public Defender since August 2022. Prior legal experience includes roles as a Practicing Law Student in the Criminal Defense Clinic at the University of Alabama School of Law, where engagement in municipal courts and communication with local courts were key responsibilities. Additionally, Matthew held positions as a Certified 3L Law Intern and Legal Extern, contributing significantly to various trials and legal research. Matthew's background also encompasses summer legal internships focusing on litigation research and competency issues, as well as roles outside the legal field that developed leadership and operational skills, such as Valet Supervisor and Resident Director.
