Alicia Kavelaars

Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at OffWorld

Alicia Kavelaars has over 20 years of experience in the aerospace industry. Alicia began their career in 2000 as an Engineering Research Associate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, where they were responsible for the integration and test of the Large Area Telescope. In 2006, they joined Maxar Technologies (formerly SSL/MDA, Space Systems/Loral) as an Attitude Control/Radio Frequency Autotracking Systems Engineer. Alicia then moved to GMV USA in 2008 as the Director of Business Development/Lead Systems Engineer, and was later promoted to Vice President of Business Development at MetiSpace Technologies Inc. (formerly GMV USA) in 2013. In 2015, they assumed the role of President at Laser Aerospace and Strategic Advisor of Engineering and Partnerships at Shackleton Energy Company, where they worked on solving three world challenges for good: energy, water & internet access. In 2016, they co-founded OffWorld and assumed the role of Chief Technology Officer.

Alicia Kavelaars has a varied educational background. Alicia earned a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University, and a B.S. in Theoretical Physics from Universidad Autonoma de Madrid.
