Zong Wen Yan has a diverse work experience in various roles and companies. Starting from 2017, they worked as the Web Coordinator and later as the Industrial Liaison at IEEE PES Student Branch Chapter UoM. From 2019 to 2021, Zong held multiple positions at CIGRE UK NGN, including Vice-Chair, Mentoring Scheme Lead, Membership Lead, and Assistant Membership Coordinator. From 2015 to 2021, Zong worked as a Post Graduate Research Student at The University of Manchester, specializing in Power Networks. They were also a member of the Centre of Doctoral Training in Power Networks and published two peer-reviewed papers. At the University of Liverpool, Zong worked as a Research Associate from 2021 to 2022, where they were involved in projects related to developing arc CFD simulation models and researching alternative gases for SF6 replacement in circuit breakers. From 2022 to 2023, Zong served as the Centre of Smart Grid Manager at The University of Exeter. Currently, Zong works as a Policy Manager at Ofgem, starting in 2023.

Zong Wen Yan began their education at Christian Fellowship School in Liverpool, where they completed their GCSEs from 2001 to 2007. Zong Wen then attended The Blue Coat School in Liverpool from 2007 to 2009, where they completed their A-Levels. In 2009, they enrolled at The University of Manchester and earned their Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) in Chemical Engineering & Analytical Sciences in 2012. Zong continued their education at The University of Manchester and completed their Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from 2012 to 2014. Zong Wen later attended Tsinghua University in 2018 to study Electrical Engineering, though no specific degree name is provided. Zong's education journey culminated at The University of Manchester, where they pursued a PhD at the Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Power Networks from 2015 to 2020.
