Chief Legal Counsel (interim) at Ohio House of Representatives

Heather B. has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Heather began their career as an intern at Peyser Associates in 1998. In 2001, they became a Legislative Service Commission Fellow at the Office of Governor Taft. From 2001 to 2004, they served as a Legislative Aide to State Representative Kevin DeWine before transitioning to the role of Legislative Policy Advisor to Speaker Jon Husted from 2005 to 2008. In 2008, they briefly worked as an Assistant Majority Legal Counsel to Speaker Jon Husted.

Heather joined the Ohio House of Representatives in 2009 and held various roles, including Associate Legal Counsel & Policy Aide to Minority Leader William Batchelder and Deputy Legal Counsel & Redistricting Director to Speaker William Batchelder. Heather also served as the Joint Secretary of the Ohio Apportionment Board.

In 2010, Heather worked as an Appointed Counsel in the Juvenile Division of the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas. Heather then founded and became the President of Policy Widgets LLC in 2011.

Heather returned to the Ohio House of Representatives in 2012 and held positions such as Deputy Policy Director & Deputy Legal Counsel to Speaker William Batchelder and Majority Policy Director & Deputy Legal Counsel.

Currently, they work as the Deputy Chief Legal Counsel at the Ohio House of Representatives, a role they took on in January 2021.

Heather B. has a strong education background in law. Heather attended Westlake High School from 1992 to 1996, where they obtained their high school diploma. Following that, they enrolled at The Ohio State University from 1996 to 2000 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Heather then pursued higher education at Capital University Law School from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained a Juris Doctor degree in Law.

In addition to their formal education, Heather has obtained several certifications related to the practice of law. In 2008, they were admitted to practice law by the State of Ohio through the Ohio Supreme Court. In 2010, they obtained admission to practice law in the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio. Furthering their credentials, Heather gained admission to practice law in the U.S. Court of Appeals, 6th Circuit in 2013. Lastly, in 2014, they received admission to practice law from the U.S. Supreme Court.
