Michael Mayes

National Register Of Historic Places Coordinator at Oklahoma Historical Society

Michael Mayes is an experienced professional in the fields of history, preservation, and education, currently serving as the National Register of Historic Places Coordinator at the Oklahoma Historical Society since August 2022. Prior to this role, Michael held the position of Museum Assistant and Assistant Curator at the Cork Public Museum, focusing on the transcription of historical letters and the Irish War for Independence. Michael's background includes teaching history at Newcastle Public Schools and working as a Petroleum Landman with various companies over several years. Michael also served as the ELL Coordinator for Oklahoma City Public Schools and has hands-on experience in construction as a house builder. Academically, Michael holds a Master's degree in Museum Studies from the University of Oklahoma and a Bachelor’s degree in History, Historical Research and Writing, from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
