Mark Whitney

Mark Whitney serves as the Executive Director at Old Dominion University since July 2023, focusing on enhancing Virginia’s maritime workforce through applied research and technology. Prior experience includes roles such as Executive Director for the Hampton Roads Maritime Industrial Base Ecosystem at Reliability & Performance Technologies, and Vice President of Industrial Operations at BAE Systems, Inc. Whitney has held significant leadership positions in the U.S. Navy, including Deputy Vice President and General Manager roles at U.S. Fleet Forces Command and Naval Sea Systems Command, overseeing operations, maintenance, and logistics. With a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor’s in Marine Engineering from Maine Maritime Academy, Whitney combines extensive military experience with a strong educational background in maritime industries.
