Dr. Paul Roberts is an authority in the field of environmental air quality studies from exposure assessment to instrumentation and their related methodologies. He was involved in numerous evaluations of analytical methods, monitors, and instruments and evaluated a range of continuous benzene monitors for use in communities near oil refineries.
Dr. Roberts recently retired from Sonoma Technology, Incorporated (STI) after a whopping 35 years tenure within its management team, most recently as Executive VP, Chief Scientific Officer, and Corporate Quality Assurance Officer. He has often presented complex technical project results to governmental bodies and the public. Dr. Roberts has co-authored three book chapters; published 38 peer-reviewed journal papers and over 240 reports; and made over 75 presentations at conferences, universities, public agencies, and public meetings. Dr. Roberts designed and managed regional, near-road, and near-source air quality and meteorological field studies in many areas of the United States, including California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Texas, Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast, and the northeastern United States from Virginia to Maine. As co-lead, he developed and presented a three-day photochemical assessment monitoring stations (PAMS) data analysis workshop and a PM workshop for the U.S. EPA. He has done air quality and exposure work in cooperation with governments, universities, and industries in Egypt, Jamaica, Mexico, Columbia, and Thailand. In addition, Dr. Roberts served on various EPA peer-review panels from 1995 to 2010.
Prior to STI, Dr. Roberts was chairman of several oil-industry trade association committees that sponsored air quality research, was a consultant to the environmental affairs group of Chevrons, and testified at Federal hearings.
Dr. Paul Roberts holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering Science from Cal Tech and a master's & B.A. in chemical engineering from Rice University.
