Thomas P. O'Neill III has a diverse work experience. Thomas P. began their career as a State Representative in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in 1973. Thomas P. then served as Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1975 to 1983. In 1984, they became President of Bay State Investors, where they worked until 1991. Since 1991, they have been serving as the Chief Executive Officer of O'Neill and Associates.

Thomas P. O'Neill III began their education at North Cambridge Catholic High School, where they attended from 1959 to 1962. After completing their high school education, they pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at Boston College from 1964 to 1968. Later on, O'Neill furthered their education by attending the Harvard Kennedy School, where they obtained a Masters in Public Administration from 1976 to 1978.
