The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders are seeking an Oncology Physical Therapist to join our extensive, well-established, physician-led, and managed group practice in Fort Worth, TX.

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders strives to create the premier community cancer center in the region, ensuring the patient’s journey includes integrated access to all components throughout the continuum of care. Our mission is to care for every patient as we would a cherished member of our family. The practice offers Hematology/Medical Oncology, Breast Surgical Oncology, Gynecologic Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Clinical Trials & Research programs.

About the Role

The Oncology Physical Therapist plays a crucial role in providing specialized rehabilitation services to individuals diagnosed with cancer. Working within an oncology practice, the physical therapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing comprehensive rehabilitation programs to address the unique physical challenges and impairments faced by cancer patients. The primary goal is to optimize patients' physical function, alleviate pain, and improve their overall quality of life during and after cancer treatment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Patient Assessment:
    • Conduct thorough initial assessments to evaluate patients' physical abilities, limitations, and functional status.

    • Assess the impact of cancer treatments on patients' musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and cardiovascular systems.
  2. Treatment Planning:
    • Develop individualized treatment plans based on the assessment findings, considering the specific needs and goals of each patient.

    • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as oncologists, nurses, and social workers, to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
  3. Rehabilitation Interventions:
    • Administer a variety of therapeutic interventions, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, gait training, and modalities, to address pain, weakness, fatigue, lymphedema, and other symptoms and side effects related to cancer and its treatment.

    • Educate patients on proper body mechanics, energy conservation techniques, and home exercise programs.
  4. Pain Management:
    • Implement pain management strategies through therapeutic exercises, modalities, and other evidence-based techniques.

    • Collaborate with the healthcare team to monitor and adjust pain management interventions as needed.
  5. Communication and Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals to provide updates on progress and address any concerns.

    • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress, goals, and adjustments to treatment plans.
  6. Patient Advocacy:
    • Advocate for the needs of cancer patients within the practice, ensuring that rehabilitation services are integrated into the overall care plan.

    • Collaborate with community resources to support patients in their recovery and transition to post-treatment life.
  7. Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and other relevant information in accordance with regulatory standards.
  8. Continuing Education:
    • Stay informed about the latest research, treatment techniques, and advancements in oncology rehabilitee through ongoing professional development and continuing education.

 

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from an accredited program.
  • Texas licensure as a physical therapist.
  • LANA certification in Lymphedema Therapy.
  • Previous experience or specialized training in oncology rehabilitation preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
