Kate Mactear

Patient Solutions Engineer at Onkos Surgical

Kate Mactear has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Kate started as a Student Intern at Mohawk Mountain Ski Area in 2011, where they gained insights into the engineering aspect of the business. Kate then worked as a Student Intern at Waukesha Bearings Corporation in 2012, where they conducted tests and compared new designs with older ones. In 2013, they worked as a Student Intern at OST Energy, where they researched and designed a new solar farm.

In 2015, Kate joined BAE Systems as a Graduate Engineer and completed their Graduate scheme in the Maritime Services business. Kate gained experience in different departments and took a sabbatical year to study for an MSc.

In 2017, Kate became a Masters Student at the University of Bristol. Kate completed their Masters degree in 2018 and joined TOKAémedtech as a Design Engineer and Quality Engineer. Kate was responsible for product development, design, and managing the quality department.

In 2021, Kate joined Stryker as a Senior Design Engineer. Kate worked in the company until 2023. At Stryker, they contributed to design projects.

Currently, Kate is a Patient Solutions Engineer at Onkos Surgical, starting in 2023.

Throughout their career, Kate has also been involved in various organizations. From 2016, they have been a member of the Women's Engineering Society's Early Careers Board, where they aimed to make the society more accessible to younger members and act as a role model for young women in engineering.

Kate Mactear completed their education in a chronological order. Kate first attended Burgess Hill School for Girls from 2009 to 2011, where they obtained their A Levels in Maths, Physics, and French.

After that, Kate attended the University of Bristol from 2012 to 2015, where they earned their Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Subsequently, they pursued further education at the University of Bristol from 2017 to 2018, obtaining a Master of Science (MS) degree in Biomedical/Medical Engineering.

Additionally, Kate has obtained two certifications. In September 2010, they obtained the Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award from The Duke of Edinburgh's Award institution. In May 2010, they also acquired a Sailing Instructor certification from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).
