Cathal Sheerin

Cathal Sheerin is an accomplished journalist and protection consultant with extensive experience in advocating for writers, journalists, and artists at risk. Currently serving as the Regional Editor for Europe and Central Asia at IFEX and as a Protection Consultant for ICORN since March 2022, Cathal has a diverse background as a freelance journalist since 2007, contributing to notable publications such as The Guardian and The Independent. Previously, Cathal held key roles at PEN International, including Protection Coordinator and campaigner, where advocacy efforts involved significant campaigns such as "Out in the Cold." Additional experience includes serving as Press Officer for the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain and as a reporter for The Santiago Times, focusing on human rights issues. Cathal holds a BA (hons) in English Language and Literature from UCL and a Master’s degree in the same field from King's College London.
