Christopher Martius

Academic Advisor (voluntary) at Open Forest Protocol

Christopher Martius is a distinguished expert in climate change, energy, and low-carbon development, currently serving as Team Leader at CIFOR - Center for International Forestry Research since April 2013. With extensive experience in leading research and managing large-scale projects, Christopher oversees a team of 20 scientists and an annual portfolio of climate-related research funding. Notably, Christopher directs CIFOR’s Global Comparative Study on REDD+ and coordinates climate change research within the CGIAR Research Program on Forests, Trees, and Agroforestry. In addition to roles at CIFOR, Christopher has contributed as an Academic Advisor to the Open Forest Protocol and has held several senior positions focused on sustainable agriculture and food security across various international organizations. Christopher's educational background includes a Ph.D. in Biology from The University of Göttingen, alongside qualifications in agroecology and fine arts.
