Frank Suykens

Director at Open Geospatial Consortium

Frank Suykens is the current director at Open Geospatial Consortium. Frank has also been the Chief Innovation Officer / CTO Platforms at Hexagon Geospatial and CTO at Luciad.

Frank Suykens started their career as a software engineer at Barco Graphics from July 1995 to December 1996. Frank then became a research assistant at K.U.Leuven from January 1997 to July 2003. In August 2003, they joined Luciad as the CTO and was responsible for the R&D, product management, and services for all Luciad technology. Frank led the technical acquisition talks and technical due diligence on the Luciad side when it was acquired by Hexagon in 2017.

From December 2018 to October 2020, Frank Suykens served as the Chief Innovation Officer / CTO Platforms at Hexagon Geospatial. In this role, they were responsible for the R&D, product management, and development services teams for Hexagon Geospatial's platform development, including the Luciad product line. Frank was also responsible for the Hexagon Geospatial platform vision including the use of Xalt framework from Hexagon's Innovation Hub.

Frank Suykens has been a driving force in the geospatial industry for over two decades. Frank's experience and expertise have made him a valuable asset to both Luciad and Hexagon Geospatial. We are excited to see what they will do next at Open Geospatial Consortium.

Frank Suykens is a Belgian computer scientist and professor at KU Leuven. Frank received their PhD in Engineering from KU Leuven in 1992, and their Ms. Engineering in Computer Science from KU Leuven in 1988. Frank also studied Latin-Math at Sint-Jan Berchmanscollege Westmalle.
