Binaifer Nowrojee

VP, Organizational Transformation at Open Society Foundations

Binaifer Nowrojee is vice president for organizational transformation. She served as the founding director of the Open Society Foundations’ East Africa foundation and as regional director for Asia Pacific for more than a decade before shifting to her current role.

A longstanding human rights advocate, Nowrojee previously worked as legal counsel with Human Rights Watch and as a staff attorney at the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights. She is the author of numerous reports and articles on human rights. Nowrojee has worked extensively on the prosecution of sexual violence under international law and testified as an expert witness at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.

Nowrojee has served as a lecturer at Harvard Law School and was awarded a Carr Center fellowship to examine how international tribunals can better achieve justice for rape survivors. She graduated with a JD from Columbia Law School and an LLM degree from Harvard Law School.
