Ian Osband

Ian Osband is a member of the Technical Staff at OpenAI since September 2023, focusing on product-inspired research including ChatGPT and GPT-4. Prior to OpenAI, Ian worked at DeepMind from June 2015 to July 2023, progressing from Senior Research Scientist to Senior Staff Research Scientist, contributing to projects on epistemic neural networks, efficient agent development, and ambitious AI applications. Ian's experience also includes roles as a Data Scientist at Google, a Data Science Consultant at Credit Sesame, and an analyst at JPMorgan Chase, with early internships in credit research and private equity. Ian earned a PhD in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University and holds an MMath and BA Hons in Mathematics from the University of Oxford.
