Head of Special Projects at OpenAI

Jonathan Lachman has a strong and diverse work experience. Jonathan is currently serving as the Head of Special Projects at OpenAI since 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Blend from 2018 to 2023, where they held the position of Head of Strategic Operations and Co-Head of People Operations. At Blend, they played a crucial role in scaling the company's annual revenue from $20m to $250m and leading a 12-person team responsible for strategic planning and various initiatives.

Before their stint at Blend, Jonathan served as the Chief Operating Officer at Leap Motion (now Ultraleap) in 2017 and worked at The White House as the Associate Director for National Security Programs in the Office of Management and Budget from 2014 to 2017. During their time at the White House, they led a team of 60 people and oversaw a $1 trillion annual national security budget.

Prior to their experience at the White House, Jonathan held several roles within the United States Department of Defense, including serving as Acting Chief of Staff to the Deputy Secretary of Defense in 2014 and Acting Chief of Staff to the Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense in 2013. Jonathan also worked as a Special Assistant to both the Deputy Secretary of Defense and the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics.

Jonathan's early career included roles at the United States Institute of Peace as an Expert Working Group Assistant and at PFM as a Consultant in the Strategic Consulting Group. Jonathan also worked as a Research Assistant to Dr. Ash Carter at the Preventive Defense Project.

Jonathan Lachman attended Maret School from 1984 to 1997, where they completed their secondary education. Following this, they enrolled at Princeton University from 1997 to 2001, earning an A.B. degree in History. Later on, they pursued further education at Harvard Kennedy School from 2005 to 2007, obtaining a Master of Public Policy degree. The field of study for this degree is not specified.
