Michael Cha

Application Scientist - Structural Biology at OpenEye, Cadence Molecular Sciences

Michael Cha has a diverse work experience in the field of structural biology and biotechnology. Michael is currently working as an Application Scientist in the Structural Biology division at OpenEye, Cadence Molecular Sciences since July 2021. Prior to this, they worked as a Field Applications Scientist in Cryo-EM at SPT Labtech from March 2020 to July 2021.

Before joining the industry, Michael pursued their PhD at Yale University from August 2013 to December 2019. During their doctoral studies, they also served as a Graduate Teaching Fellow from January 2016 to May 2016. In addition, they completed a Mini-MBA course offered by The Yale Student Business Society from March 2019 to April 2019.

Michael gained research experience as an Undergraduate Researcher at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from January 2011 to May 2013. Michael'swork primarily focused on developing a novel assay to investigate the destabilization of nucleic acid structures and quantifying urea interactions with nucleic acid bases. Michael'sresearch resulted in a co-first author publication and presentations at various conferences and symposiums.

Furthermore, Michael has held other positions such as Deputy Editor at the Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine from January 2014 to June 2018, and an Internship at Bristol-Myers Squibb in June 2014.

Michael Cha holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Cell Biology, which they obtained from Yale University between 2013 and 2019. Prior to that, they pursued a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2009 to 2013. In addition to their academic qualifications, they obtained certification in "MED001x: Drug Discovery & Medicinal Chemistry" from edX in August 2021.
