Michael Hall has a long and varied work experience. Michael began their career in 2004 as a Computer Programmer for Alton Steel, Inc., where they were responsible for SQL and Visual Basic development and IT support for new and existing programs. In 2006, they became a Research Assistant at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where they were responsible for improving the existing HINP16C chip and developing a new PSD chip. From 2008 to 2020, they worked at Washington University in St. Louis as a Graduate Research Assistant and later as an Adjunct Instructor. Michael also had internships at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in 2011 and 2012, and at VelociData in 2013, where they designed and implemented a hash function in SystemVerilog and verified its correctness with randomized tests written in C++. Most recently, they began working as a Software Engineer for OpenVault LLC in 2021.

Michael Hall received their Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2006, following two years of study from 2002 to 2006. Michael then went on to pursue a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the same university, graduating in 2007. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 2015.
