Vice President - Medical Technology & Innovation at Operation Smile

Anthony Dwyer, PhD, MS, AHFP has a diverse range of work experience in the medical field. Currently, they serve as the Vice President of Medical Technology & Innovation at Operation Smile, where they oversee the Operation Smile Online Global University and leads initiatives to enhance education and training. In this role, they have directed the development of a global electronic health record system and implemented an optical mark read patient paper chart in multiple countries.

Prior to their current position, Dr. Dwyer held various roles at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria, including Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery and Former Director of Simulation-based Medical Education & Scholarship. At the university, they coordinated the development and implementation of clinical care scenarios and contributed to the Department of Health Sciences Education and Pathology as an adjunct faculty member.

Dr. Dwyer also served as a Regional Clinical Skills Administrator at the American College of Surgeons, where they managed clinical skills training programs. Additionally, they worked with the Will County Emergency Management Agency as part of the Emergency Operations Staff.

Anthony'searly career includes roles at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine as a Clinical Skills Assistant, the American College of Chest Physicians as a Clinical Simulation Specialist, and Adventist Hinsdale Hospital as an Anesthesia Technician.

Anthony Dwyer has a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Anthony also holds a Master's degree in Human Factors Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and a Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Emergency Management from Loyola University Chicago. Additionally, they have obtained various certifications in emergency management and healthcare, including the Professional Development Series in Emergency Management from FEMA, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Experienced Provider (ACLS) from the American Heart Association, and Associate Human Factors Professional (AEP) from the Board of Certification in Professional Ergonomics (BCPE). Anthony has also received certifications such as B-Con - Stop the Bleed Trainer, Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Technical Emergency Response Training (TERT), Trainer of Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings (IRTB), and Trainer of Technical Response for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (CBRNE) from various institutions.
