Romy Fitschen, MPA has a wealth of experience in the financial, accounting and operational functions of various organizations. Romy began their career in 1991 as Company Manager at BoarsHead Theater, where they were responsible for the financial operations, budget and grant administration of the 300-seat professional equity nonprofit theater. Romy also managed the office and box office, and was the personnel manager and handled all contract management for over 100 actors per year.
In 1997, Fitschen moved to the Michigan Coalition To End Domestic and Sexual Violence as Fiscal & Operations Director. In this role, they were responsible for all financial, accounting and human resource functions including financial and grant reporting, deposit and investment account management, collections, payroll, staff budget, tax and benefit programs, human resource and payroll compliance and audit preparation associated with a $1.5 million annual budget for the state-wide nonprofit domestic and sexual violence advocacy organization. Romy was promoted three times in recognition of their exemplary performance.
In 2016, Fitschen joined the Michigan Library Association as Associate Executive Director and Director of Finance and Administration. In this role, they were responsible for all association financial, accounting, personnel and operational functions, including strategic planning, internal controls and audit. Romy also supported formulating the organization’s mission, goals and objectives and related policies to serve the association membership, and ensured programs and services directly benefit members.
Most recently, Fitschen joined the Opportunity Resource Fund as Controller in 2020. In this role, they coordinate accounting functions and systems implementation including compliance and financial reporting, audit, procedures improvement, database and subledger processes for the Community Development Financial Institution. Romy also audits mortgage, small business loans and investments to ensure accuracy and compliance, and performs in-depth compliance reporting to various agencies.
Romy Fitschen, MPA has a diverse educational background. Romy attended Oak Park & River Forest High School from 1979 to 1983 and obtained their High School degree. Romy then attended Beloit College from 1983 to 1987 and obtained their BA in Theather Arts. Romy then attended Lansing Community College from 1993 to 2011 and studied Accounting and Finance. Most recently, they obtained their Master of Public Administration - MPA from Kent State University in 2020, with a focus in Non-Profit/Public/Organizational Management.
