Hannah Walter-Pilon

Director, Technical Community Engagement at Optica

Hannah Walter-Pilon has a diverse work experience spanning different organizations and roles. Hannah began their career as a Staff Assistant in the Office of Senator Richard J. Durbin, where they assisted with administrative tasks. Hannah then transitioned to the role of Legislative Correspondent in the same office, reviewing and responding to incoming correspondence and meeting with constituents to discuss policy issues.

After their time in the Senate, Hannah worked as a Government Relations Coordinator at Defenders of Wildlife. In this role, they assisted with the planning and execution of congressional lobby days, receptions, and staff briefings, overseeing budgets, participant recruitment, and logistical details.

Hannah then moved on to Optica, where they held multiple positions. As the Membership and Education Coordinator, they managed the Optica Traveling Lecturer Program and the Optica Member Advisory Network, implementing strategies to recruit volunteers and foster growth in the network membership. Later, in the role of Technical Community Manager, they worked with volunteer leaders to develop innovative activities and increase program engagement within the Optica technical group program. Finally, as the Director of Technical Community Engagement, Hannah oversaw the incubator meeting program and the society's technical group program, focusing on fostering a sense of community among Optica members.
