Merritt McLaughlin has a diverse work experience in various companies and roles. Merritt started their career as a Media Manager at Forget Tobacco from May 2010 to December 2012. Merritt then worked as a Library Assistant at Ivy Tech Community College from October 2015 to February 2018, where they gained experience in navigating and teaching others how to use multiple databases and online research tools.
Following that, Merritt joined Ball Bearings Magazine as a Staff Writer/Junior Executive from August 2016 to April 2017 and later as an Articles Editor/Senior Editor from April 2017 to December 2018. In these roles, they were responsible for approving story briefs and ensuring adherence to the style guide, while also serving as a senior editor.
Merritt then worked at Inside INdiana Business as a Writer/Reporter from December 2018 to March 2020. During this time, they honed their writing and reporting skills. Merritt then transitioned to Indianapolis Monthly as a Freelance Writer from August 2017 to January 2021, where they contributed articles and content for the publication. Merritt also had a short role as an Editorial and Dining Intern at Indianapolis Monthly from May 2017 to August 2017.
Currently, Merritt is employed at Orbis Education since July 2020 as a Digital Content Specialist. In this role, they write and edits content for various channels, including blogs, social media, and emails. Merritt also collaborates with brand managers to create compelling client and strategic goals, ensuring adherence to specific brand styles and tones of university partners.
Merritt McLaughlin (she/her) began their education journey by obtaining a high school diploma in General Studies from Dover High School in 2011. Following that, they pursued an Associate's Degree in General Studies at Ivy Tech Community College from 2014 to 2016. In 2018, Merritt completed their formal education by earning a Bachelor's Degree in Magazine Journalism from Ball State University.
In addition to their academic achievements, Merritt has also obtained several certifications to enhance their skills in digital marketing and writing. Merritt completed the Social Media Marketing Certification Course from HubSpot Academy in July 2021, followed by the Digital Marketing certification from the same institution in August 2021. Later on, they pursued further professional development through LinkedIn, obtaining certifications in Advanced Content Marketing in September 2022, Writing a Compelling Blog Post in July 2022, Learning Conversion Copywriting in June 2022, and SEO: Keyword Strategy in May 2022.
