Matthias Merkel

Matthias Merkel has been a key figure at Oregon Health & Science University since April 2004, holding various significant positions including Sr Associate Chief Medical Officer for Capacity Management & Patient Flow, Chief Medical Capacity Officer, and Medical Director for both Adult Critical Care and the Cardiac Surgical ICU. In addition to these roles, Matthias also serves as an Associate Professor and has experience as a Professor & Vice Chair of Critical Care until May 2020. Matthias Merkel earned a Doctor of Medicine degree and a Dr. med from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, where the focus of research was on inhaled vasodilators in ARDS.
