Mark Richards has a wealth of experience in the software architecture field. Mark started their career as an Application Architect at CSC in 1989 and later joined Apex Consulting Group, Inc as their Chief Architect in 1997. In 2003, they moved to IBM Corporation where they worked as an Executive IT Architect until 2008. Mark then joined Collaborative Consulting as their Director of Technical Architecture from 2008 to 2012. Since 2012, they have been an independent consultant, specializing in helping companies migrate from legacy systems to Microservices and service-based architecture. Mark is also an acclaimed author, having written for O'Reilly Media from 2009 to 2015.

Mark Richards completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Northern Arizona University from 1981 to 1984. Mark then pursued a Master's degree in Computer Science from Boston University, which they completed from 1986 to 1989. In addition to their formal education, Mark Richards has obtained several certifications, including BEA Weblogic Certified Developer from BEA Systems, Certified Java Instructor from Greenbrier & Russel, IBM Certified IT Architect from IBM, Sun Certified Business Component Developer from Sun Microsystems, Sun Certified J2EE Enterprise Architect from Sun Microsystems, Sun Certified Java Programmer from Sun Microsystems, and The Open Group Master IT Architect from The Open Group.
