Valliappa Lakshmanan

Valliappa Lakshmanan has extensive work experience in the field of data science and analytics. Valliappa is currently working as an Operating Executive in Data Science at Silver Lake since April 2022. Prior to this, they worked as an Author at O'Reilly starting from July 2015.

Lakshmanan also held multiple positions at Google. From September 2019 to March 2022, they served as the Director (Global Head) for Data Analytics and AI Solutions. Valliappa was responsible for overseeing data analytics and AI projects on a global scale. Before that, they worked as a Tech Lead for Big Data and ML Professional Services from February 2016 to September 2019.

Before joining Google, Lakshmanan worked at The Climate Corporation as the Director of Meteorology (Data Science) from August 2014 to February 2016. In this role, they led a team of data scientists and contributed to the development of a weather analytics system aimed at improving farmers' yield. Valliappa played a key role in developing a market-leading rainfall product and formulating product strategies and science roadmaps.

Their earlier professional experience includes working as a Research Scientist at the University of Oklahoma/National Severe Storms Lab from July 1995 to August 2014. During this time, Lakshmanan focused on developing machine learning algorithms for severe weather phenomena.

Valliappa Lakshmanan completed their Bachelor's degree in Electronics & Communications Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras between 1989 and 1993. Valliappa then pursued a Master's degree in Electrical & Biomedical Engineering from The Ohio State University from 1993 to 1995. Later, from 2000 to 2002, they obtained a PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.

In terms of their high school education, they attended P. S. Senior Secondary School from 1987 to 1989 and St. John's Besant Nagar from 1985 to 1987.

Furthermore, Valliappa Lakshmanan holds a certification as a Google Cloud Certified Data Engineer, which they obtained in May 2017 from Google Cloud Certified.
